Maistro has set itself the goal of combating food waste and has decided to take measures for that for our planet.
Food consumption
The average Austrian throws away over 19 kg of food every year. That's the equivalent of 380 bread rolls per person per year, with a value of €300.
With 157,000 tons of food wasted annually, fruits and vegetables account for 27% of the most food waste, ranking second among all waste products. And the worst part? Around 1.6 million people in Austria are still at risk of poverty.

A palm oil-free future
Transition to alternatives planned gradually
In addition to our products already switched to "palm oil-free," we are working on further sustainable solutions for the future. Whether clear soups , vegan salad seasoning , or Himalayan crystal salt – environmental protection has always been a central theme for Maistro, just like taste, quality and, of course, health.
Therefore, our company has decided that palm oil must be gradually replaced by more environmentally friendly alternatives such as sunflower oil. As a small family business, every change to the recipe represents a significant investment of time and money. Each adjustment necessitates investigations, analyses and controls. This begins with internal quality control, extends to compliance with food regulations and includes bottling and shelf-life tests.
The first steps have already been taken. We successfully converted our bestseller "My Clear Soup" within a year, being free of palm oil in all sizes. More products from our range will follow.

My Salad Dressing
Pickling & preserving vegetables
For the sake of our environment and out of respect for starving people worldwide, we want to be more conscious of food consumption.
Home-pickled vegetables not only preserve fresh vegetables for months, but also benefit from the exceptionally good taste thanks to "Mein Salatfein".
Firm vegetables such as cucumbers, carrots, peppers, radishes, onions, zucchini, but also pickled mushrooms are particularly suitable!
Before you pickle the vegetables with our salad seasoning, make sure the jars are sterilized to ensure a shelf life of six months.
This way, we're taking a stand against food waste!

Sustainable packaging
The path to environmentally friendly packaging
My Mug Soup was the first of its kind in 2019 and is sustainably packaged in 24g paper stick packs in Austria. Subsequently, Maistro eliminated all plastic containers from its product range and switched to stand-up pouches made from recycled paper.
Through our collaboration with the packaging company Packiro and the organization Eden Reforestation Projects, we are helping to ensure that new trees grow in the world's most important forests at the same time.
This includes "My Mup Soup" in the 300g package and our natural crystal salt in the practical 700g stand-up pouches. More salt enjoyment and environmentally friendly packaging that is perfect for refilling the salt shaker.
